Basic Info
Real Name: Warren Kenneth Worthington III
Code Name: Angel
Age: 19
Physical
Height: 6'0
Weight: 150 lbs
Hair: Blond, straight, and kept in a short and easy to care for style (which is maintained with regular visits to the salon, and still doesn't stop him from spending far too much time in the bathroom of a morning).
Eyes: Blue
Distinguishing marks: Sixteen foot white feathered wings. While these can be hidden with a combination of a special harness and large coats, it isn't easy or comfortable and Warren tends not to bother unless he knows that he is going out in public.
Personal
Mutant Powers: Warren's entire body is adapted to flight. He not only possesses the wings that led to his code name, but his eyes, musculature, skeletal system and respiratory system are all adapted to work at higher speeds and altitudes than any normal human could hope to achieve. With hollow bones and a higher proportion of muscle on his virtually fat-free frame, Warren is stronger than the average human - but most of his more impressive feats of strength are achieved whilst in the air: his wings produce enough lift for Warren to carry more than twice his own weight. His eyes are much sharper than a normal human's, and his reaction times much quicker - more akin to the birds of prey that he shares the sky with.
And it truly is shared territory. His mutation developed early, giving him plenty of time to develop his skills and become accustomed to following his instincts in the air. While his mutation does very little to help him in battle situations - and may even hinder him since he is quite an obvious target - Warren grew confident enough in the air to take on the persona of the 'Avenging Angel' and begin using his powers to help others.
Skills: Flight, basic hand to hand combat, keen business sense and all the basic skills of someone expected to function in high society - he knows how to conduct himself at a dinner party, for example, without getting confused over which fork is which.
Equipment: The harness and coats that he uses to conceal his wings - and therefore mutation - from the world. He also has a rather extensive wardrobe of clothing modified to fit around his physical mutation.
Family: Warren Kenneth Worthington II and Kathryn Worthington (parents), Bertrand Worthington (uncle).
History: The first and only child of business mogul Warren Worthington II, Warren III was groomed toward following in his father's footsteps and upholding the family's name and reputation from before he could walk. Everything that he received was the best, and there was nothing that he was ever left wanting - except for the attentions of his parents. Sent to prestigious boarding schools as soon as possible, what little time Warren did spend at home was under the care of various nannies, and though he did his best to please his parents it never seemed enough to the young man.
Things did not improve when his mutation began to emerge. Though he hid his growing wings for as long as he possibly could, there came a time when they simply could not be ignored any longer. As soon as his parents realised what had happened, he was hidden away; poked and prodded by various 'expert' doctors; and when he could not be made back into the perfect son that he was supposed to be, Warren was given harnesses and clothing that could at least hide his abnormality as much as possible so as to avoid bringing shame to the entire family.
Warren did what anyone in his situation could be expected to do. He rebelled.
He started paying more attention to women than schoolwork, got a costume made for himself, and eventually started a night-life as a vigilante. Though he did his best to live up to the standards set to him by day - never excelling, simply meeting expectations and going no further - Warren found himself unable to care about a life that he would never be able to live to his parent's satisfaction. After graduating from high school, he did enroll to study business at university, but he never felt any drive to succeed above and beyond what he had to do to continue attending. His work as a crime-fighter at night was what really mattered.
It was during this time as the Avenging Angel that Warren first came in contact with the X-Men. His exploits, having become more well known that he intended, had drawn the attention of both the X-Men and Magneto - the latter deciding to set Angel up before inviting him to join together. Having always done his work for good, Warren naturally refused, and it was only with the help of Rogue and Cyclops that he was able to escape this incident unharmed.
While he was quite happy to thank the two X-Men for their help, he was not willing to join their team either, and Warren went back to working alone - this time making a more concentrated attempt at keep himself out of the news.
After a precious relic was stolen from his family, and Magneto reappeared in his life, Warren decided to seek out the X-Men for help - a plan that worked but had both good and bad consequences. This temporary alliance was formed yet again with the rise of Apocalypse, and it was during this fight that Warren realised that he could spend his time much more effectively if he was helping as part of a team rather than on his own.
Having managed to survive, he decided to join the X-Men, transfer to a different university and continue studying what was important to his parents - but spend the majority of his time focusing on what was important to him.
His parents, of course, did not approve. After a particularly violent row with his father over the direction his future should take as opposed to what he wanted it to take, Warren dropped out of university and packed his bags. His move to Xavier's came at a high cost - but he is refusing to back down until his father does, and has been adjusting to life with the X-Men (and without his credit card) as best as he can.
Personality: While Warren is rather easy to get along with most of the time, there are moments where he can be a right royal pain in the behind. Having been raised to expect that certain things will be provided for him, Warren can get quite stroppy when he has to actually do work that he considers beneath him, or does not get his own way.
He has plenty of acquaintances, lovers, even people he considers friends, but there are few people that ever truly get to see what Warren is like on the inside, get to see the fear of failure and the feelings that he will never amount to anything but a disappointment that occasionally bubble up. Warren is smooth and more than a little charming, but in the end he feels that if someone does not like him it is their own misfortune - and obviously no fault of his.
Many people would call him vain. They'd be perfectly correct. He knows that he is good-looking and sees no point in beating around the bush and pretending to be oblivious to suit the expected standard of proper modesty.
Likes and Dislikes:
Likes - Women. Bonus points if they're as easy to look at as he is. Fast cars and time spent in the air. Good food, good wine, good coffee, good company (bonus points if this good company involves a pretty woman or three who can actually hold a decent conversation). Good quality (read: expensive) clothing, shoes and bourbon.
Dislikes - Not getting what he wants. Being told what to do. Cages, windowless rooms, and being unable to stretch his wings. People who do not dress to suit their figures. Moulting. Having to share a bathroom. Having to think about money. |
